The Ancient Locket Part Five

Frustrated with life, Sandry and Ryka find themselves alone and wondering a mysterious beach, that leads them to discover The Ancient Locket.

“Keep Running.” Blae told Aileen.

“Were to? Theres a dead end coming up.” Aileen said

“I know that, there’s a ladder, see it?”

“Yes.”

Aileen glanced over her shoulder seeing Kieran was only 5 metres behind them.

“Run faster.” Blae said. “Quickly jump and climb as fast as you can.”
Aileen grabbed the rungs and hauled herself up.

Blae turned around to face Kieran; thrusting her hands infront, she created a circle of fireballs; releasing them they encircled Kieran alighting his cloths.

“Huh!” cheered Blae. Only to see Kieran wave his hand and the fireballs were extinguished. “What!”

“You really thought your pathetic fireballs could harm me?” scoffed Kieran.

Reaching behind her, Blae grabbed hold of the first rung and scampered up.

“Were do we go now?” panicked Aileen as Blae appeared.

“Follow me.” Blae ordered her getting out of the manhole.

Racing out into the busy markets, towards the docks Blae cried out to a young man around 20 years old, tall, slender, with shaggy blonde hair. “Bo, we need your help!”

Bo, looking up from docking a small boat, called back “what is it?”

“Show him the locket Aileen.” Blae told Aileen, as they reached the man.

“B-b-ut..” she stammered.

“We can trust him, he knows a lot more about Wanderer items then the both of us.” She assured Aileen.

“Wanderer item?” Bo asked.

“Uh, here.” Aileen said, handing the locket to him.

“Wow, real gold!” Bo exclaimed. “How do you open it?” looking at Blae.

“Aileen?” Blae asked.

“There’s a ring at home, that had a similar design that I used to open it.”

“At home?”

Looking at both of them confused “Yes?”

“Why didn’t you bring it?” asked Bo.

“Don’t you see how risky its going to be to get the ring?!” asked Blae.

“How was I suppose to know this was going to happen?” Aileen cried out.

Swinging a arm around both the girls shoulder Bo asked “How about you tell me what happened?”

“We can’t right now, there’s a Wanderer after us.”

Turning around, he untied the boat he just docked. “All aboard!” he smirked.

“Thanks” Blae said hugging Bo.

“Yer, yer..” Bo replied lending a hand to Aileen.

Blae glancing over her shoulder saw Kieran grinning wickedly at them, with 2 others were standing next to him.

Kieran emerged from the manhole, looking about he saw the girls running to the docks. Glancing around to see where he was, he saw two other Wanderers.

Calling out to them “Your services are required.”

The two Wanderers looked about spotting Kieran replied “And why would a fellow Wanderer require help?” snickering.

“My powers are not of a physical touch, two thieves have stolen a charm of mine.”

“And what price are you willing to pay?”

“2 gold astrals each.”

“You got to be dreaming, even a farmer pays us more!” scoffed one.

“If a farmer knew you were only lower-leveled Wanderers, he would not be willing to pay soo much.”

“Hmmph, What do you want?” asked the second Wanderer.

“I want, my charm back!” Kieran fumed.

“Fine, we haven’t had a services required so far today – I guess we could-”

“YOU WILL GET MY CHARM BACK!” roared Kieran.

“Y-y-ess, y-y-ess, right away sir.” Stumbling after him.

“Faster, were not moving fast enough!” cried Blae.

“Im going as fast as I can go.” Puffed Bo rowing.

“What will happen if they get us?” Asked Aileen to Blae.

“Let go of it, Aileen, you don’t want to know.” Blae told her in slight irritation.

Facing the shore Aileen could see the two people next to Kieran, waving their arms about, lips slightly moving. Looking at Blae again, shyly asked “What are those two doing?”

Blae twisting to look screamed at Bo “Bo, you really have to row faster!”

“What the heck for?” Asked Bo, momentarily stopped rowing to look at what was going on. Blae grabbed the oars from his hands, and furiously rowed.

Panicked “What are they doing?” Aileen chocked, tears showing in her eyes.

Bo looked at her “Hey now no need to cry.” Stroking her check, “Those two buddies with that guy – uh Kieran was it?” seeing Blae nodded having roughly outlined their story as they pushed away from the docks.. “Are weather and water Wanderers.”

“B-b-ut they can’t hurt us far away? Can they?” whispered Aileen tears streaming down her face.

The sky at that time, was noticeably growing darker as storm clouds toppled over each other as they were called, pouring their rain onto the group in the boat.

“Im afraid so, unless there’s a willing Vexis around, we might wanna start praying.”

“Shut Up Bo!” yelled Blae. “We don’t kno what there going to do, so let off!”

Wildly looking around, Aileen spotted a wave growing over 7 metres tall hurling towards them, she pointed at it screaming.

Blae stopped rowing and looked while Bo gaped, mouth hanging “It’s coming towards us, fast!” Blae cried.

“It’s the Wanderers, there doing this!” called Bo.

All 3 of them were petrified, as the wave, still growing hurled towards them.

Walking back to wear they had left their packs, “Look at the Eggs!” exclaimed Sandry.

“How can they have already changed colour? It hasn’t been 3 days yet?” said Ryka peering over her shoulder.

Looking at their Eggs they had noticed, Sandry’s had turned Red with yellow swirled into it, while Ryka’s had turned a deep blue.

“Maybe we should go get your mum?” asked Sandry.

“I guess we could, but lets see whats in the wood first, please?” Ryka asked her quickly.

Sighing Sandry replied, “I guess it couldn’t hurt right?”

“Course not!” laughing, Ryka fished out her pocketknife.

Digging chunks of wood out carefully, Creena called out to them “Girls its time to get a move on again.”

“Yes mum.” Ryka called out sighing.

Returning to ride the Ahuizotl, Sandry stuck up a conversation with Risqué immediately. Sighing inwards to herself, Ryka listened into what her mum was saying to Conylt.

“How long ago did the Dark Ages start?” Creena asked

“Less then 3 years ago.”

“How many deaths?”

“No ones really sure, it’s been happening all around Veradrecs. So everyone is sort of trying to look out for his or her village, none of head chief’s has replied to our call.”

“Does Mukasa really think we can stop the Wanderers?”

Looking at Creena, Conylt spoke grimly “He’s counting on it.”

The conversation stopped there until nightfall when they had set up camp.

Sandry and Conylt were quietly whispering to one another around the fire, the Ahuizotl had left to return to the river and hunt. While Creena and Ryka were inside the tent where whispering at one another frivolously.

“Mum, what are we doing here?” asked Ryka.

“We here to end the Dark Ages.” Creena pointed out.

“I know that! But why us? I mean how are we suppose to stop them?” Ryka said trying to reason with her mother.

“Like we said before, were going to Lahidl’e-”

“But why! What’s there that can help us?”

Sighing Creena told her about the meet they had set up with a Wanderer that had a vision, and how he would help them find who’s been trying to destroy Veradrecs, then plan a way to stop it.

“Why didn’t you tell us this straight out?” asked Ryka.

“Because he’s the descendant of Kieran.”

“So you don’t trust him?”

“Of course! You should know by now, not to trust anyone without doing a Soul Search on them.”

“A What? Why do you keep saying all this stuff, when Sandry and I don’t even get a clue as to what everything here is!”

“Because, im used to it, im sorry I hun, I just thought I would never have to explain all this to you.”

“You weren’t going to tell me this all exists?” Ryka asked sounding hurt.

“Im sorry, but it was meant to be easier if you didn’t know. You don’t know how much effort it takes to learn magic, spells, controlling your emotions and so forth.”

Creena told her gently.

“And what would’ve happened if they never came after us in the first place! We would just continue on with our lives, ignorant?”

“Yes, that is exactly what would have happened.”

“Then just tell me this one thing!” Ryka whispered angrily. “Why are they after Sandry.”

“Why do you care so much for her? You know we could just go home, we could live like nothing ever happened. It’s only because of her we’re here.”

“What?! What are you talking about? Im not leaving her, we’ve been for friends for how long! How could you just want to skip out on her? Doesn’t she mean anything to you? And life wouldn’t just go back to normal, you’ve got powers, you don’t age like normal people do – like me. You can’t just erase what has happened.” Becoming upset, Ryka turned away from facing her mother.

“This is why I don’t want you to be here. I do love her just as much as you, as if she were your sister. But you’ll be faced with many challenges, ones that won’t be easy to overcome. If you get upset just talking matters through, how do you suppose you’ll be when you come face to face with the person who started the Dark Ages?”

“Im not leaving her, I know were strong! Look at our Eggs! And if you were at the beach you would’ve seen what Sandry could do!” blabbed Ryka.

“What happened at the beach and the Eggs?” Creena asked harshly.

“They’ve changed colour mum! And it’s only been a day.”

“That mightn’t be necessarily good.” Deep in thought on what might have triggered the Eggs to change so suddenly, Creena stalked outside to discuss it with Conylt.

Sandry looking worried at Ryka as she sat down, she asked, “What happened?”

“I blabbed what happened to the Eggs.” Glancing at her mother, who seemed to be whispering harshly to Conylt. “She’s probably going to come back soon and demand what happened at the beach.”

“Don’t worry about it.” Sandry told Ryka nudging her, “We’d have had to tell them what happened sooner or later, the time was just – a lot sooner then we expected.”

“Id prefer it to be later.” Grumbled Ryka.

“Want to have another look at the wood?” asked Sandry.

“Mmm, I guess.” Getting up, Sandry brought over her pack, pulling the wood out as Ryka took out her blade from her pocket.

“I don’t get it, you know there’s something in there, and now I feel like there is something in there.” Sandry contemplated.

“What do you mean?”

“I don’t know. It just feels like there’s something alive in it.”

Gently prising the wood away, they created a hole so they could try and see what lays in it. At that time both Creena and Conylt looked over, as if they’ve been shocked.

“What are you girls doing?” Conylt asked gruffly.

“None of your business!” retorted Ryka.

“Ryka dear, there’s no need to speak like that.” Spoke Creena.

“I don’t care. We found it, it’s ours and your not looking at it.”

Creena looking at Sandry asked, “What is it?”

“Something we found.” Not wanting to be the only to tell them Sandry took her time with the explanations on what happened at the beach, Ryka silently whispering her details that she forgot.

“This isn’t good.” remarked Conylt. “May I see your Eggs?”

Sandry grabbed both there Eggs and handed them to Conylt.

“We’ll at least mine wasn’t the only one that had sped up.” Conylt told the girls.

“What do you mean?” looking up Ryka asked.

“Mines already hatched.” He told them pointing to the tent, they saw an earth green bird hope towards them. It was tiny, and well feathered for a new born.

“Why is it green?” asked Sandry.

“Because that’s my element. Just like yours is going to be around fire Sandry, and yours around water Ryka.”

“What about yours Creena?” asked Sandry.

“Im restraining too much off my power to allow my Egg to change colour, yet.”

“Why?” asked Ryka.

“Because it’s not my duty to baby-sit a creature until it’s fully grown. Im to teach you the properties of magic, how to control your emotions the use them in the strongest means possible, as well as teaching you these peoples language.”

“What makes you have to do that.” Asked Sandry.

“You do Sandry. As you do to Ryka. For the reasons are now obvious.”

“What do you mean?”

“Can’t you hear whatever is in that wood, sing?” asked Conylt.

“Uh, well no.” Sandry said confused. “How is it singing?”

“Every magical object has a voice. Some are weak, some are strong, This, This is just unbelievably strong.” Said Creena.

Looking at Creena then the girls, Conylt told them, “The song is soo strong we can make out some of the words.”

SQUAWK!

They heard Conylt’s creature call.

Turning he asked it, “What is it?” The bird flew over and whispered something in his ear. Looking at all the girls “We have to pack now.”

“Why, What is it?” asked Creena.

“Something big is fighting with the Ahuizotl.”

“How do you know that?” asked Sandry.

“There mind-speaking to my creature.”

“Can’t you give them names?” asked Ryka.

“Yes we can, but now’s not the time. We must pack. As soon as we see the Ahuizotl we must climb on them, they’re going to take us across the river, onto a safer path.”

Turning away, he started pulling down the tent.

“Girls, make sure everything is in our packs.” Creena told them, heading over to lend Conylt a hand.

Looking at each other, they ran to repack.

Hearing loud crashes coming through the trees, they all stopped what there doing.

Creena looked up and down the tent, then through a gold disk at it. It quickly minimized the tent. Each grabbing their pack, they readied themselves as the Ahuizotl came crashing through the trees.
