Help me learn about spells?

I want to try spells for the first time. Wicca is interesting, but I'm not really ready to join a coven or anything, I just want to get my feet wet.

Can anyone recommend a book that explains it well, and maybe has a few spells with simple instructions to start out with?

Is “Idiot's guide to spells and spellcasting” a good choice?
